PENGUIN COLONY AND ALMANZA MOORING (private reservations)
Sail along the Beagle Channel watching marine wildlife and visit Puerto Almanza.
We set sail from the commercial wharf of Ushuaia city aboard our Akawaia boat and sail around Alicia Island. There, we will spot birds such as steamer ducks, upland geese, kelp gulls, gray seagulls and Antarctic doves. We will sail up to Martillo Island where we’ll be able to observe a colony of Magellanic penguins and, occasionally, Papua penguins. At Puerto Almanza we go down to visit and make a small trekking around the place. On board again, while enjoying a lunch box, we discover a few historical sites like Punta Remolinos, where the half-sunk remains of the Monte Sarmiento steamer can be seen, and we pass by Estancia Túnel.
Optional, you can have lunch at “La mesita de Almanza”, in Puerto Almanza. (Inquire about rates in private). Experience available from November till March (inquire about season’s beginning and end).
